I hope that this newsletter finds you enjoying the spring weather. The blossoms are finally out and on several occasions, the windows are open, so signs of spring are all around us. With spring comes all the projects that been on hold waiting patiently for good weather to arrive. The addition and renovation project to the Wissinger Administrative Building is well underway. The relocation plans for the Business Office and the Human Resources department have also been developed.
Our ability to do these improvements depends heavily on our benefactors. We pursue grants and other financial avenues; but what it boils down to is that we cannot do these projects without you. We are constantly reminded that without generous donations, we will have a difficult time completing capital projects. Your contributions, given for many different reasons, come in all shapes and sizes. We have recently completed the design of a new ‘gifting brochure’, which will also include the information from the former Lloyd Fund brochure. This new brochure will provide donors with several different giving options. Martha Lloyd has been so fortunate over the years, being remembered as a private non-profit organization that delivers an excellent set of services and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities. The quality and extensive nature of our services is certainly impacted by the condition of our homes and facilities. If you are in the process of establishing a bequest, and plan to name Martha Lloyd as a beneficiary, please remember to do so under the legal name of Martha Lloyd School, Inc. Martha Lloyd Community Services is not a legal corporation and does not have a tax identification number, nor does it have an Employer Identification number.
On a final note, over the past four months, Martha Lloyd has been saddened by the news of the untimely passing of several of our extended family members. There is an additional section in this newsletter, which details these losses. I would like to dedicate the remainder of my message writing to you about Debbie Smith. What a wonderfully committed person she was when it came to her daughter. Molly has been a resident since 1986, and I met Debbie ten years later when I first came to work here in 1996. Debbie’s primary mission was to ensure that her daughter got the best we had to offer. She was the definition of a strong advocate. Not just for Molly but for all individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities. She was a great ambassador for Martha Lloyd and worked very hard over the years to help us fulfill our mission. She was very kind to me and in one of my last conversation with her several months ago; she wished me well in this new position and thanked me for my efforts here. We all need people like Debbie Smith in our lives and we must consider ourselves lucky to have them. She will be missed.
Live in peace!
