Save Martha's Home Open House Held August 2, 2008

An open house was held to showcase the Victorian classic and to thank donors for the contributions they have made to the campaign. Martha Community Services administration, families, board and community members attended the event. Attendees were able to tour the building and see why the building needs some financial aid. They were also able to see drawings and plans for the proposed changes to the building. Read The Daily Review article published on August 3, 2008.

Community Residential Services

Orchard Grove II saw some renovations recently. The back entrance was converted to a porch and partially enclosed. This construction will allow residents to more easily enter the building during inclement weather. The entrance will also be fitted with a new power entry door that will enable residents to enter and exit the building more safely and with less difficulty.

Mary Jo W. was nominated from the CopperTree for the Nettie Mann Award in June 2008. The Nettie Mann award recognizes an individual who has exhibited outstanding achievement and exceptional character in living and coping with his/her disabilities. This person must have worked on a PIBH (Pennsylvania Industries for the Blind and Handicapped) contract job over the previous six months. Mary Jo was selected by PIBH as the runner-up for this award. She was presented a plaque along with $100 cash award at the awards dinner in Camp Hill, PA.  She had the pleasure to meet comedian Kathy Buckley and spent an enjoyable evening with her two sisters and her aunt.

Mary Jo works on PennDot sample bags and survey stakes. Her disabilities make doing many things a challenge but she still volunteers to help with any job, doing her best each time.  Mary Jo also won the “Yes, I Can” Award twice this past year because of her motivation. The CopperTree is very proud of Mary Jo for her achievements.
